Ah, the little red dress. According to a recent study mentioned in the Huffington Post, men interpreted photos of a woman in a red outfit as a signal that the she was indeed more open to romance. In fact, the guys tended to grade the woman’s disposition to romance about 1 to 1.5 points higher when she was wearing a red rather than white. Interesting, eh?
I have to admit, that when I’ve worn this red dress from Forever21, I’ve been asked to come to the front of a line, been chatted up more often, and gotten more questions from women about where I bought my dress. Maybe red does draw people to those who wear it!
Rather than the usual suspects with red (black and white,) I like pairing it with a bright yellow. It’s unexpected, and brings a little summer to a color associated with a chilly February holiday. The belt, bracelets and sunglasses are also F21 finds, taking the outfit to a whopping $46. You can make this office appropriate for day with a more conservative belt and heels, and lose the shiny jewelry. (But stash the fun accessories in your purse for a fun night out AFTER work.)
Red is also a confidence boosting color, so why not wear it on a day when you need that extra oomph to make it through? If you have a presentation to give, a raise to ask for, or a special event, red just might be what you need to keep the attention on you. It worked for Jessica Rabbit…
