It’s amazing how much of our lives we spend looking down at gadgets. I don’t know about you, but I spend more hours a day looking down at my phone and computer than I do looking up. It wasn’t until I started to see lines forming around my neck that I started to get concerned. Where did those come from? Are they here to stay? And what can I do about them? I recently learned that the lines and wrinkles I get on my neck from looking down so often are actually called “tech neck.”
I discovered StriVectin’s new TL Advanced Light Tightening Neck Cream (c/o) because I’m a longtime fan of StriVectin products. I was a little skeptical at first that I needed a separate neck cream in addition to the night cream and moisturizer I already use. The last thing I wanted to do was add an extra step to my skincare routine, but as the neck lines began to settle deeper into my skin, I was ready to do whatever needed to be done and I learned the skin on the neck is different so a cream formulated specifically for that area is key. I documented my daily routine for you here so you can see how I use two of StriVectin’s neck products: TL Advanced Light Tightening Neck Cream and the Tightening Neck Serum Roller.
My day begins at 2:00 a.m., so I wrap up my hair and apply my moisturizer with SPF to my face before doing my makeup, and then I add a few fingertip drops of StriVectin TL Advanced Light Tightening Neck Cream to my upper and lower neck in an upwards and outward motion so I work against gravity. When I get to work, I spend the first part of my morning in the hair and makeup room doing touch-ups and reading the morning’s top headlines on my phone. When I’m fully camera-ready, I head into the newsroom to study my stories and prepare for the broadcast. I usually spend the greater part of my morning looking down at my laptop and phone, which I’ve realized is the main cause of my “tech neck”. After we wrap the morning show, I try to meet up with friends (or my sweet sister in this pic), for early lunch around 11:00 a.m., but I’m ashamed to admit, I’m still often checking my phone for client texts and emails.
When I finally get home mid-morning, I change into my comfy clothes to run errands or head to the gym. Rather than go through my entire skin routine again, I keep the Tightening Neck Serum Roller (which is small enough to keep in my purse!), to use on the go. It has a cool roller ball that I can use quickly and won’t leave me with face cream all over my hands. (And it’s literally cool to the touch. It’s pretty refreshing, actually.) I like doing a few quick “touch-ups” during the day to help counteract all the time I spend looking down at my phone.
Bedtime for me comes at about 6:00 p.m. I like to wind down with a cup of decaf hot tea and lounge in my robe. (And yes, I am still doing work on my laptop right before bed.) The last thing I do before I go to sleep is cleanse my skin and then steam it with a hot towel on my face and neck for a deeper clean. After a few minutes, I apply my usual night creams to my face and the StriVectin TL Light Neck Cream to my neck. After using the products for a month, I noticed a diminished appearance in the lines on my neck, and I hope as time goes on, I’ll have even smoother skin. I don’t want to spend thousands of dollars later trying to hide the tech neck damage at the cosmetic surgeon’s office later on, so this routine is my game plan for now!
