Happy Friday!
I can’t begin to express how glad I am that the weekend is here. I made a mess of this week.
I took a freelance job that I knew wasn’t right for me and was a bad use of my time. I took it because I happened to have that day open, and I thought it would be nice to have the extra money. Except-it wasn’t nice, and I immediately regretted taking it the moment I got there.
And that’s when (after a long, long day,) that I realized something. We spend a lot of time in life telling our friends (and ourselves) not to “settle” in our love lives. “Wait until the right one comes along. You’ll know when you find the one. Don’t waste time dating people you know in your heart aren’t a good match for you.” All those statements are helpful and true. When you’re ready to settle down, why waste your time with all the wrong people? It just keeps you from finding the right person. I finally figured out that the same is true for our careers and our passions. We shouldn’t waste time on the things that take us further from our goals when we know what the right thing is. If we accept jobs, opportunities, and deals that are beneath our standards, then that is what we will attract. There comes a time when you can’t settle. You have to set the bar high, and refuse to lower it for any reason. And that’s when the things that we really want come along.
All that being said, don’t forget to dress for the job you want, not the job you have. Have a great weekend!
