Thanks for hanging in there with me the past few weeks…I haven’t been able to post as much I would like due to weather and work conflicts. I appreciate you coming back to the blog and checking things out.
Have you ever visited New York City? There are a few ways to experience the city: visiting for work, visiting friends/family, or a real vacation dedicated to exploring the city. Sometimes it’s a combination of all those things! No matter which way you experience the city, it’s a must-see for anyone. American or otherwise, NYC is one of those places you need to see in your lifetime.
If you’ve been a thousand times or never taken the trip, I have some great suggestions for things to see and do courtesy of my good friend and native New Yorker, Neeha. She made me a list of wonderful ideas when I visited recently, and they were all easy ways to indulge in the city.
- Central Park and the Park Lane Hotel. Central Park is such a beautiful oasis amidst the concrete jungle, but if you’ve been several times and want to see it from a different perspective while eating a top notch meal, I recommend making a reservation at the Park Lane Hotel. The staff is friendly, the food is excellent, and the view is stunning.
2. St. Patrick’s Cathedral. This is truly my favorite landmark in New York. Whether you love old churches like I do or not, you’ll be in awe of the historic architecture and gorgeous decor inside. It’s the perfect place to light a candle and say a special prayer, see the Stations of the Cross, and read about past Saints. Just imagine getting married here!
3. The High Line. The High Line is a 1.45-mile-long New York City park built in Manhattan on an elevated historic New York Central Railroad. The park gives you beautiful views of the city, and artists have created unique art murals that you can see along the way. It’s a great place for romance; lots of proposals and family photos take place here. There is a great coffee shop called Underline right below the park, so grab a latte before you start walking!
4. PRINT for brunch. If you’ve heard about Hell’s Kitchen and want to check out a great place to brunch with friends, Print is fantastic! Located within a renovated and repurposed printing factory, it has seasonal, sustainable cuisine. The ingredients are from the local farmers market and regional farms. I ordered marscapone french toast with figs, brunch potatoes, and the best English Breakfast tea I’ve ever had.
5. New Amsterdam Theater. I saw the amazing production of Aladdin here, but the theater itself is a sight to see. It was built in 1902–1903 and was the home of the Ziegfeld Follies. The New Amsterdam is one of the oldest surviving Broadway venues with beautiful art deco design inside. You’ll love seeing any show here! (It’s right off Times Square, too, so you can hit that up for a bite before a show.)
6. The Roof. I’m not a cocktail drinker, but if you are looking for a Happy Hour spot with a spectacular view, this is the place to go!
7. Magnolia Bakery. This is a famous sweet spot to get a treat while you’re in town. Expect a line at most times of the day, but it’s worth the wait and the lines move very quickly. The banana pudding is to die for, the cupcakes are mouth-watering, and the cheesecakes looked divine!
Lastly, an affordable stop to pick up a little something for friends back home is Rain. I fell in love with this boutique because of it’s fresh scents and fair-trade business model. The New York location is the only one in the United States, so you’ll get something truly unique to take home. The bath bombs and body creams are fantastic. It’s right off Rockefeller Center, so swing by after touring 30 Rock.
The weather was unseasonably warm while I was in New York, so this blush skirt with fringe and metal accents was warm enough for sight-seeing! Blush is such a huge color this spring, and the way the details dress it up keep the neutral from being boring. It’s available at Lion & Witch, but call and order yours before it’s out of stock!
Let me know your recommendations for New York hot spots. I’d love to add them to my list!
