I have been reviewing new movies for quite a while, and I leave so many of them with style inspiration that I’ve decided to start a new series of posts dedicated to Cinema Style. Today’s post comes as “Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain” hits theaters, and though this documentary is a very unlikely style source, the comedian’s look really struck a cord with me.
There are two things I know absolutely nothing about: stand up comedy and Kevin Hart. Oh, I’ve seen Kevin Hart in random movies from time to time, so I was familiar with his face. But I had NO idea he was beloved by so many people all over the world, thanks in part to his YouTube success. (His career wasn’t always riddled with success, as he was booed off stage multiple times, once even having a piece of chicken thrown at him.)
“Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain” showcases Hart’s most talked about performance at a sold-out show in Madison Square Garden, a huge feat for a stand-up comedian. Since I’m a bit of a conservative chick, I wasn’t quite prepared for all the foul language of his set. He doesn’t hold back on basically anything; if you wonder if he might go there, be assured that HE WILL. If you think Paula Deen is accused of using a word that should never be uttered, you’ll find Hart far surpasses her. That being said, if you’re a fan of Hart’s comedic style or semi-raunchy comedy, then you’ll enjoy this flick. He’s wickedly crafty with his storytelling and has more energy than a gang of pre-schoolers. Quick note: this isn’t for children, so be warned. Since blue comedy isn’t typically my style, I focused on what really caught my eye. His wardrobe.
What do you wear to perform at a sold out show at one of the most famous venues in the world? Black leather, a black shirt, and lots of shiny gold accents. Hart looks sharp in black, and the gleam on the gold lights up his face like an angel. ( A really bawdy angel.) I went home thinking about how to make this black & gold combo work for me this summer, and came up with this look. An embellished (but sheer) black top is ideal for the summer heat, and you can never go wrong with denim skinnies. Who knew you could be inspired by a documentary about a comedian? Just goes to show you can find great style anywhere, anytime.
“Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain” opens nationwide today.
