If you live anywhere in the South, you know that “fall” can mean slightly less warm than summer, but still pretty mild sometimes. Or maybe less warm and more humid. Either way, all the fall clothes are out, and you want to wear them! But how can you get that fall feeling without sweating to death, right? Here are my suggestions…
- Layers don’t have to mean just clothing. Adding a fun fall hat is one easy layer that brings a seasonal vibe to your outfit without adding too much warmth to the rest of your body. (I got this one from Brooklyn Hat Company!)
- Tank tops and thin tees are your best friend. You can layer a sweater, cardigan, or a jacket over these and still feel cool.
- Get a coat that has some components you can remove to create less bulk. I am OBSESSED with this adidas Xploric Parka for lots of reasons, like the (faux) fur hood lining is removable. It’s super warm and comfortably soft, and has front pocket media cord routers. If you’re in the market for a new coat for fall/winter, this one has incredible reviews online and is fitted, which looks very flattering on.)
- Choose shoes that breathe. Whether you choose open toed shoes or boots with some breathing room around the ankles, this will help keep you cool when things start to heat up.
- Layer with a lightweight purse or fannypack (which the classy peeps are calling a “waist bag”,) rather than a bulky, large handbag. I’ve gotten a ton of mileage out of this YSL investment bag. It’s perfect for both dressing up and casual looks, but light to carry and holds all the essentials perfectly.
If a coat is too heavy for fall where you are (I’m looking at you, Galveston,) lighter fabric scarves can be a good option tied around your neck or worn as a wrap.
Let’s raise our glasses of pumpkin spice lattès and cheers to the upcoming cooler weather. I couldn’t be more excited for pumpkins, s’mores, and chilly nights under a sky full of stars!
