Today’s post is a special one, and one close to my heart. As you can see, these aren’t photos of me, but of a dear (super stylish) friend, Kim Smith Jones. She is the Director of Engagement for My Refuge House, a non-profit ministry that restores survivors of commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) and abuse. Sex trafficking is a word we hear all over the news, but typically don’t associate with our hometowns. Unfortunately, it happens everywhere, all over the world, every second. And as I’ve come to find out, it happens regularly right in my own city. My Refuge House is created to be a safe environment for girls who have been rescued from these situations.
When girls are rescued, there are few places in the region that cater specifically to survivors of trafficking. My Refuge House is dedicated to providing access to the best care we can in order to effectively alleviate the trauma the girls have experienced, and to give them a hopeful future. My Refuge House provides counseling, education, livelihood skills, and job skills training, as well as dental and medical care through qualified doctors.
Kim Smith Jones has traveled all over and heard the stories of these lovely women who have been victims of this sad reality. But their stories of redemption and God’s grace have given her and countless others inspiration! If you live in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area, you can be a part of the solution to this problem by joining me on Thursday night, November 5th at Fashioned For Freedom! I will be helping emcee the socially responsible fashion show, which will be held at The Frontiers of Flight Museum, 6911 Lemmon Avenue, Dallas, Texas. Doors will be opening at 7 p.m.
The show will feature an exclusive premiere showing of top fashions by outstanding ethical brands. Attendees will learn about realities of human trafficking, why it matters, and how to join the fight against it. In collaboration with, Shop by heartstories, a collection of products that generously give back to support women all around the world, will be hosting a pop-up shop in which guests may purchase socially responsible merchandise to help further empower women. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served throughout the evening, too.
I’d love for you to join me and my beautiful friend Kim in doing what we can to bring hope to the lives of women who have so much to offer this world. You can purchase tickets for the event HERE, or you can always donate to My Refuge House online HERE. I hope to see you there!
