It’s been well over a month since Fox’s first birthday, but I’m just now able to sift through all the iPhone photos we took so I can share them. My husband came up with the idea of Foxtober, so we hired A Little Party Co. to help us create a backyard pumpkin patch for the kids!
We decided on orange, gold, white, baby blue and navy as the party colors to go with the season. A Little Party Co. painted pumpkins, brought in hay bales, corn stalks, corn husks, wheat, and cute signs to let everyone know where to go. They stocked our backyard with ALL kinds of pumpkins: Cinderella, Baby Blue, Fairytale, Long Island Cheese, and Warty Goblin! We gave out mini pumpkins (aka “sweetie pie pumpkins”) as the party take aways, and Board and Bread in Texas created a beautiful grazing table with some Saturday morning snackables for guests. We opted to have both regular cupcakes (pumpkin spice, chocolate and vanilla,) and vegan/gluten-free cupcakes in chocolate and vanilla. Fox’s smash cake was also vegan/gluten-free in a funfetti flavor, but he wasn’t super into eating cake. We basically had to force him to try a taste of the icing! (He wasn’t a fan.)
We served Topo Chico, orange soda, flavored Izze Sparkling Juice and bottled water for the adults, and organic coconut water/fruit juice drink packs for the kids. I tried to have as many healthy “party” options for everyone as possible, since many of our friends are vegan, gluten, or dairy free. We had 55 guests, which made for a full house of kids who couldn’t wait to run around and play together. It was very sweet seeing how children make friends so quickly and easily….the beauty in observing them is witnessing how they love and accept others freely. We also did a little time capsule where guests could leave Fox a note with a wish, a memory, or a prediction. They are sealed until his 18th birthday! It will be so much fun to read what everyone had to say on his very first birthday all those years later.
After two and a half hours of eating, drinking, and celebrating, Fox was tuckered out. One of the bonus aspects of this party was the decor was usable all month long. We kept our porch decorated with the dozens of pumpkins until Halloween, which made everything look very festive. We wanted this first birthday to be a special one; Jeff’s family came in town for the weekend to celebrate and my sister and brother-in-law sent a really sweet card and gift. My thoughtful Mom bought some of the goodies for the party to make it extra sweet. October was a fantastic month for a birthday! We hope it was a truly happy birthday, Fox. We couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful son.
