Better late than never, but I am so excited to share Fox’s nursery with you!
I am most excited about his room because the fabulous Courtney Warren of Courtney Warren Home designed it. (In fact, Project Nursery featured her work on our nursery HERE!) She knew we wanted clean, bright, and simple, but with a few touches that can grow with Fox as he gets older. We told her we wanted to use three Slim Aaron’s photographs as the inspiration, since he’s our favorite photographer and we have started a collection of his work. (We have one giant print of his Palm Springs work in our living room and another of his famous pool shots in our powder bath!)
We chose a gold iron crib, which is a nice change from the traditional wooden crib. Courtney helped me narrow down the vast (and sometimes confusing,) selection of cribs. I was a little wary of a metal crib at first, since I didn’t know anyone else who had one. It also does NOT convert to a toddler bed, so we went back and forth on whether that was necessary. In the end, this turned out to be an awesome choice and Fox loves his bed! Courtney picked out bedding accents from Restoration Hardware Baby, and I bought the grey RH crib skirt and bumper from my dear friend Stephanie, who didn’t need them any longer. She kept them in perfect condition and in the original packaging…amazing.
Courtney picked out this super cute Crate and Barrel rug in navy, a gorgeous grey wood bead chandelier, and the navy/white combo pinstrip fabric to custom cover our Pottery Barn rocker. She paired the rocker with this leather Moroccan pouf and added some mint green accents to the room, like the pillows and dinosaur succulent planter. We found his “vintage” Vornado fan in mint green from Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
She added an accent wall of grey stars, which turned out really cute. She picked an adorable wooden sign board, which we’ve featured various funny phrases on. We printed up some of our babymoon photos from Carmel By the Sea and did a series of three on the wall near the rocker, along with a white neon “love” sign. Fox received a lot of very special books from the baby shower, so we placed those on floating acrylic shelves from Amazon and in a white bookcase we found on clearance at TJ Maxx.
Since our crib is gold, we added gold curtain rods in his closet and installed a simple closet organizer from Home Depot for all this new outfits, shoes, blankets, and socks. We bought extra bins for the top shelf to keep diapers and odds and ends in.
The new dresser became a changing table once we added a Pottery Barn changing topper. I wanted to be able to use almost everything again once we turn it into a “big boy” room, so we will remove the changing topper and use the dresser as is. The rug, rocker, bookcase and shelves can all be used as he grows, too!
Let me say this: if you’re considering using a designer for your nursery, DO IT. Courtney did the design and product research for me, instead of me spending valuable hours doing it myself. It freed me up to spend time resting, preparing for other aspects of pregnancy, and knowing that the nursery would turn out awesome. These projects can sometimes lead you to second-guess your decisions if you do them yourself. With a professional, you are presented with ideas and concepts and can choose what you like. Courtney styled the room perfectly for me once all the furniture had arrived and we had everything from the baby shower in the room/closet. It was an awesome experience and I love spending precious moments with Fox in his special room of the house.
