I’ll be the first to admit I have dry skin. I take hot showers. I often forget to moisturize my hands and feet. I spend a lot of time outdoors, even during cold, windy days. And I keep the heat cranked up inside all winter long! Although I’ve heard a million times to “only take a lukewarm shower” and always moisturize afterward, I can’t stop myself from a super steamy shower. So what’s a girl to do to stay soft but still get those sauna-like temps in the shower? I visited the Target Beauty Concierge to find out.
I admitted to the Beauty Concierge my love of hot water and my laziness with moisturizing my body. I take excellent care of my face, but I’m less diligent with keeping my body soft and cared for. She didn’t judge me or shake her head. Instead, she gave me some brilliant suggestions that would keep my skin from feeling scaly, but wouldn’t take a lot of effort. If you’re on the lazy side in the winter like I am, you’ll benefit from hearing her ideas:
- Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion. Rather than spend a ton of time slathering on a lotion after I get out of the shower and waiting for it to absorb into my skin, this cuts my time in half AND I still get to spend an extra minute or two in the warm shower! You simply rub it on like a body wash, rinse it off, and step out of the shower. Done! Your skin will be soft and sealed with moisture. This is hands down my new favorite thing.
2. Neutrogena Oil-free Acne Wash. I use this face wash in the shower for a light face scrub and makeup remover. It’s still very moisturizing even though it gives a deep clean. My pores are plagued with my heavy work makeup, so this gets deep down where it counts.
3. Vaseline Intensive Care Spray Moisturizer. Once again, I hate spending a lot of time on moisturizing, but sometimes I need additional support for my skin. Winter temps can wreak havoc on my legs and outer arms especially, so on the days that they feel especially itchy or dry, I spray on this moisturizer. It smells fresh and clean, and doesn’t take nearly as long as a traditional lotion. Plus, if you get dryness on your back, backs of your legs, or backside, this spray can reach those hard places!
4. EOS Lip Balm. I bought the Summer Fruit flavor, but it comes in a ton of yummy scents. My lips get dry from the long-wear lipstick I like to use, so I have been using this lip balm at night before bed to keep them soft. It’s 95% organic, 100% natural, and paraben and petrolatum free.
5. Burt’s Bees Hand Salve. This has been a lifesaver when it comes to my dry, cracked hands! I wash my hands more often in the wintertime because I’m around sick people more than usual, so that leads to dry hands. This hand salve is super rich and heavy, so I put it on right before bedtime to avoid getting it all over my clothes or my keyboard at work. If you want smooth hands, this stuff is like magic.
For less than $50, I now have an amazing arsenal of products that work, and work well. I love how the Target Beauty Concierge didn’t judge my laziness; she just offered solutions. Don’t you wish everything in life was that easy? Find your style @TargetStyle.
