It’s no secret I’m not a cook. I make two things: manicotti and chocolate chip cookies. Oh, and the occasional smoothie. But one thing I’ve come to love is creating a cheese board. Not only is it perfect (and popular!) for parties, it’s also fun to do for a romantic indoor picnic or something easy to make with kids. I’ve created a board like the one above but added a savory cheese souffle to create a delicious dinner, or visited Farmers Market for honeycomb, fresh apricots, and then added a variety of cheeses. The main thing you need for a successful cheese presentation? Something awesome and function to present it on!
I am smitten with this Uncommon Green State Slate, which is Made in the USA and quarried from Vermont. The slate is a great conversation piece, because it lets guests find out about the places you’ve been or where you’re from, or commemorates a special place for you and your significant other. This also makes an incredible gift for graduates, a going away present for a friend who is moving, or a housewarming gift. It’s large enough for appetizers or dessert displays. They retail for $65.
**To make my “everyday” cheese board, I added a few sweet, salty, and savory elements:
Walnuts, fresh strawberries, “everything” pretzel crisps, apple slices, muenster cheese, raw honey, coconut rolled dates, and a few squares of chocolate. You can add slices of bread, other cheeses, and some dried fruit to kick things up a notch. Make sure there is something for every palate!
