Although this post doesn’t look much like a Valentine’s Day post, it’s because I ran out of time to shoot something themed before I took off on a little getaway with my Valentine. But rest assured, the day has not been forgotten.
I have been a lifelong fan of Valentine’s Day. I love the sentiment of telling those around you the things you like most about them, taking time to pick out a special card for the people you love, and eating candy until you want to explode. So far, I see no downside to this holiday. I never thought of it as just a romantic holiday, but rather one that reminds us all to give a little token of our affection to one another.
My favorite Valentine’s Day memory from youth was in second grade, when Brad asked me to marry him on the Valentine he brought, and he drew a “Yes” or “No” for me to circle and pass back. Instead, I took it home and asked my Mom what I should do. She wisely told me to write “Maybe” and give it back. “Always keep them guessing”, she said. And that advice has served me well my entire life. Thanks, Mom!
