Any big plans for New Years Eve? I try to plan ahead with what I’ll be wearing and how I’ll do my hair and makeup so I’m not running late the day of. This striped dress from Lion & Witch caught my eye for New Years Eve because it’s comfortable, a little flirty, and actually has straps so I’m not pulling up a strapless dress all night. I love these colors, too!
To kick off the new year, I’m reviewing StriVectin Hair’s new All Smooth products for frizz-prone hair. Your part of the world may not have a lot of humidity this time of year like mine does, but you may have annoying static in your hair and winter flyaways. I wanted to give this formula a try and see how my hair held up. FYI- the shampoo doesn’t lather up like traditional shampoos, so I pour the shampoo in one hand and rub it vigorously with my other hand before scrubbing my scalp to help distribute the product more evenly. The StriVectin All Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner don’t have a strong scent, which is a pleasant surprise. The conditioner made my hair soft as expected, but it didn’t feel heavy. The Frizz Control Mist is supposed to repair damaged hair cuticles and protect against frizz from heat damage and also from humidity, so I’ve found it works well on my hair whether I blow it dry or let it air-dry. I sometimes let my hair dry overnight, so that’s when I use the Overnight Frizz Serum. These products made my hair feel soft, look shiny, and there were less flyaways. So, here’s some good news: these products are good for ANY hair type: straight, wavy, curly, coiled, and tightly coiled! It’s also awesome for color-treated hair. SO….if you want to spend New Years Eve without pesky flyaways in every selfie or snap with your friends, get these products!
On to the face. I’m a sucker for new makeup, but I just found out that more than 60% of what you apply to your skin is directly absorbed into your blood stream. SERIOUSLY?! I had no idea. There is a new cosmetic line called Nu Evolution that set out to create alternatives to the propylene glycol (also know as antifreeze!), phthalates, parabens, sulfates and other harmful ingredients used in tons of your usual beauty products. As someone who suffers from mysterious health issues now and then, I started to wonder if my cosmetics were part of the problem. This line is organic and cruelty-free, so I decided to try Nu Evolution Lipstick in Allure ($30), the LipGloss in Bling ($32-a sparkly gold), and an Eye Shadow in Glam ($25), which is a bold, berry purple. The colors are lovely with this dress, and these products work incredible well. The lipstick and gloss were super soft and didn’t feather and bleed. The eye shadow was pigmented and lasted all day. So, I say this is a win-win if you care about what you put on (and essentially absorb into), your body, and you want gorgeous cosmetics.
By the way, I went super simple on the NYE hair…high ponytail. It stays out of my way and out of my Bling lip gloss!
