The term “apothecary,” is one that conjures up images of old school doctors and pharmacists prescribing natural remedies for ailements with a personal focus. Some apothecaries grew their own ingredients in their garden, and mixed potions after a one-on-one consultation with the patient. Well, Kiehl’s is bringing old school back with their Apothecary Preparations-which only makes sense after 165 years of expertise. I visited the Highland Park Village location for a personal experience with an apothecary expert who evaluated my lifestyle to find products tailor-made specifically for me.
When you go into Kiehl’s, the consultation will begin with a Kiehl’s Customer Representative, who will help you identify your personal skin needs. Mine sat down and asked me about my specific concerns, which are fine lines and skin texture. She then used a small device to check the hydration of my skin, which had surprising results! I feel like I drink quite a bit of water during the day, but my skin tells a different story. I fall into the dehydrated category, which makes sense with my combination skin of dry face and oily T-Zone. (She told me that when skin is dehydrated, it often increases oil production to try and compensate.) After showing me photos of my skin type/color and examples of different skin conditions (fine lines, texture, dullness, large pores, etc.) and letting me decide which I identify with the most, she wrote down a “prescription” for what I need.
The Skin Strengthening Concentrate provides a base for the formula, and individual concentrates are added at home. (These concentrates are too potent to be applied directly to the skin, so make sure to mix them as instructed.) The entire consultation took about twenty minutes, and then I was sent home with my preparation to give it a try. It’s only been two days, but so far, I’m loving how my skin feels! There is something special about personal attention, and I’m happy to see apothecary beauty is back on the scene.
