When it comes to special looks for holiday events, I don’t branch out much. That’s why I needed to visit the Target Beauty Concierge to ask for her help. I had two Christmas events that I needed to look nice for; one casual, one more formal. I was in luck when I visited Target to chat with the Beauty Concierge, because they were having an event based around lip and eye makeup! There were two beauty concierges on hand to answer questions and recommend products, which was awesome. This time of year the store is crazy busy, but with two of them there, I didn’t have to wait to speak to someone.
The first event I had to get ready for was a charity holiday home tour, which is one of my favorite ways to kick off the Christmas season. It’s a more casual affair, but I still wanted to look nice and put together. The Beauty Concierge recommended playing by the typical “daytime look” rules: simple, clean makeup with low-maintenance hair. She pointed me to Rimmel’s BB Cream to set the look (which I recently bought at Target and love), and then showed me Tresemmé Tres Two Spray to keep my hair waves loose but still in tact with the windy weather we’ve been having in Dallas. This was an especially great recommendation, because I’ve used pricier hairsprays that didn’t hold nearly as well. I’m making Tresemmé hairspray my go-to from now on. I also used the NYX “Love in Paris” eye palette from this blog post to do subtle eye makeup as she suggested, and I love how the look turned out!
Now, for the more formal event. This is where she got me to think outside the box a little….
Although the long-standing rule for redheads has always been “no pink,” she told me that rule is outdated and needed to go! She thought a pretty pink lip would be beautiful with my skintone and hair. I had a pink dress from Lion & Witch sitting in my closet, so it seemed meant to be! She showed me new lipsticks from the affordable e.l.f. brand, and I found a pink (Ravishing Rose) that wasn’t too bubble-gum pink and rosy enough for winter. It’s a moisturizing lipstick, too, so my lips didn’t get dry all night. Hallelujah!
My only worry about wearing pink to a holiday party is that I wouldn’t be festive and dressed for the spirit of the season. The Beauty Concierge suggested I do a bold red nail color to punch up the look and add some Christmas flair! I’d always been told not to mix pink and red, but she assured me it would look great. And you know what? She was right! She recommended a budget-friendly red by Wet n Wild in case I decided I didn’t like the look. Minimal commitment to a nail color (it was under $1,) made me love it even more! The color has stayed glossy and beautiful for days without chipping. Score! She told me a deep side part on my hair is what’s trending now, so I tried that as well, and it stayed in place with the same Tresemmé hairspray.
Next week is the final countdown to the last few holiday events before New Year’s, so you can find your local Target Beauty Concierge and events with the store finder at Target.com/BeautyConcierge.
