Yep, I look like an egg with legs. It’s the home stretch now, so my belly has taken over my body and now has the power to dictate almost everything I do. I have cut waaaaay back on my workouts and have resorted to doing light arm weight workouts while sitting on a medicine ball and walking the dogs. No more Peloton bike rides or extensive Pilates reformer workouts for me. I wish that I could, but when I push myself, I’ve begun to get cramps and backaches, which aren’t good signs. (And holy swollen face, Batman! My face hasn’t been a normal size for three weeks!)
Instead, I am turning my focus to the things I can control more easily, like my skin. I had to stop using a lot of my regular skin products when I got pregnant, so fear of deepening lines is real! Luckily, I’ve been using Dermalogica products for a long time and they are the perfect way to keep things right, tight, and looking good all night while preggo. 🙂 Here is what I’ve been using:
- Precleanse: This might sound like an unnecessary extra step, but the Precleanse is a deep-cleansing oil melts impurities and make-up from skin. Or, what about that pore-clogging sunscreen we have been wearing all summer? It melts it away, too. Stuff like oil and waterproof makeup build-up on skin throughout the day, but this gives you professional cleansing results. It’s so gentle that it can be used around the eye area to even remove waterproof mascara. Follow up with your cleanser for the most squeaky, silky clean skin!
- Daily Microfoliant: This exfoliating product is all kinds of amazing. Everyone’s experience in pregnancy is unique, but many of us developed new skin issues as the months rolled on. For me, I had a combo of dry and oily patches, which kept my makeup from going on smoothly and staying on as long. (I also developed a few dark spots on my face and spider veins in weird spots, like my left cheek and above one breast. So weird.) This product helped smooth everything out so the surface of my skin felt soft and free of any lumps, bumps, or dryness. My goes went on evenly now, and stays on much longer.
- Phyto Replenish Oil: This is a Demalogica product that I don’t think you hear as much about, but it’s truly a secret weapon. Oils scare some people, but I’m here to tell you that it won’t clog your pores or make your skin too oily. It does, however, make your skin silky smooth and keeps it hydrated like nobody’s business! I like to mix this product with whatever my fav moisturizer is at the time, and it does wonders. If you like to read product reviews, people on Ulta.com saw a change in how their skin looked and felt after just a few days of use.
- Hydrablur Primer: I’ve been using this one for years because it works! I’ve definitely noticed more fine lines since being pregnant, which could be in part to the fact that I’ve gone eight months without using any products with retinol or retinoids. This primer blurs fine lines and pores and keeps my skin hydrated. It’s also not a greasy primer, so it feels lightweight and keeps your skin from looking like a shiny oil slick! Makeup goes on smoothly and doesn’t settle into your lines, which makes this product worth the extra step.
So, those are my pregnancy skin secrets! Well, that and the fact that I have been drinking three Swell bottles full of water during the day and one at night. Water is by far the cheapest, easiest beauty “product” I swear by!
