It’s been colder in Dallas than some parts of Alaska this week, which has been a strange turn of events. Even with the frigid weather, some friends and I made it out to the sneak peek premiere party of the HBO show “Girls” this week at the Granada Theater. (The new season starts Jan. 12th.) To be honest, I’d never seen the show, though I’d seen Lena Dunham’s short film “Tiny Furniture” a while back. I was surprised to see some of the same characters from the film in the TV show! Dunham clearly likes to bring her friends along for the ride wherever she goes.
The show isn’t for the conservative or for children/teens, so know that up front. (Think modern post-college “Sex and the City”.) And while “Sex and the City” was known for luxury labels and brands, “Girls” is a grittier look at east coast style. Their wardrobe is what I like to call Anthropologie meets Hot Topic. These characters pair the unexpected together…not because it’s fashionable, but mostly because they wear whatever seems to be clean and within reach. What I like about that is the stark reality of it….not everyone gets up each day meticulously planning their wardrobe .
So, today, I did just that. I have my closet color coordinated, and in it, the colors purple and red are side by side. Rather than planning what to wear, I pulled the two things right next to one another and decided to put them on. There is something quite freeing about spending less time planning our wardrobe and more time living in it!
