Ah, yes. The holiday season is upon us. And it couldn’t be better timing!
This year has been a hotbed of drama, ups and downs, and a voracious news cycle. But just in time for sweet relief comes the holidays; a time for peace, joy, and reflection. Love is definitely in the air.
Down the street from a favorite hangout of mine is a little bridge near a lake with a walking/jogging path, and I discovered there is a bridge covered in “locks of love”. Couples, families, and friends have engraved locks with their names, messages, and anniversaries and locked them on to the bridge! I saw some that a father and daughter placed on the bridge, newly married couples, and best friends who wanted to share their friendship with the world. This became a famous thing to do in Paris, and it was a sweet surprise to see a miniature version in an area I frequent. Some of the locks are elaborate with photos and engravings with short explanations, while others are locks with Sharpie messages scribbled on to the metal. Either way, it’s lovely to see people lock a permanent expression of their love onto the bridge!
The day I found the bridge was a particularly chilly one for Texas. As it gets cooler, the more comfortable I want my wardrobe to be. I am a sucker for adidas sweatshirts like this one and sweatpants since they are fleecy and cozy. I like to order a size up in both so they are extra roomy. Although my husband accuses me of being too “matchy-matchy”, I couldn’t resist getting a pair of running shoes in a coordinating color. This is going to be my winter uniform, it’s so wonderful! I was warm and totally at peace in this outfit. Also, don’t you love seeing an icy blue in the winter when it comes to wardrobe? It’s soft and pretty.
Side note on my jogger sweatpants: I’ve been reading that Gen Z and Millennial wear their socks differently with sneakers. Gen Z does regular (i.e. “taller,) socks, and Millennial wear ankle socks. These sweatpants are great because you can do either style of sock and it works!
I brought along my son with me to see the bridge this day and he was enamoured with the locks. He touched and examined each one. I told him we should come back without our own lock one day soon so we can add to the sweet tradition of sharing love in a way where others can see it. Something we should all be demonstrating this holiday season!
