If you are an avid reader of blogs, then you’ve probably either read Cupcakes and Cashmere, or you’re a devoted follower. Emily Schuman set the bar extremely high for bloggers everywhere; she’s authentic, creative, and kind, but still has a “real life” that is just as compelling as her blog life. She recently came to Dallas for a private reception with bloggers to share her new 2016 Cupcakes and Cashmere Collection, and it was a fantastic afternoon.
There is a magical place in Dallas called FIG, or the Fashion Industry Gallery. FIG is a boutique wholesale venue that showcases the best in contemporary, bridge sportswear, and accessories. It houses over 60 of the industry’s top contemporary showrooms, from Los Angeles, New York, and Dallas. It was only fitting that an award-winning blogger and media celebrity unveil her collection here, so Emily had a brief Q&A where we were able to ask her whatever we wanted about her collection and anything else we were dying to know. (FYI- Nordstrom and Shopbop are the first to feature the collection.) The one thing that struck me about Miss Schuman is her dedication to doing what feels right to her, not to the masses. It appears to be tough to stay true to who you are when you have millions of followers who have an expectation of what you are about, or think you should be. She has been navigating this conundrum with transparency and grace, which I admire. Seeing her venture into writing books, developing major brand partnerships, and design this clothing line is a great reminder that staying true to who you are and what you want pays off handsomely in the long run.
Since it was an impossibly rainy day when our event took place (you can see my candy cane umbrella in this last photo), I opted for causal and comfortable…I wore a soft as can be olive green top from Lion and Witch, tiered lace skirt, Ellie’s Sparkles stacked bangles, and a long rhinestone necklace from J. Crew. Though it’s good to suffer for fashion from time to time, a super rainy day just isn’t the time!
