Ah, tennis. I live my life between Jimmy Choos and tennis shoes. I come from a tennis family; my grandfather played in high school and as an adult, and he taught my Mom, who played all her life. They taught my sister and I, and we both played competitive high school varsity tennis. By chance, I married a man who played tennis his entire life and all throughout school, so now we share a love for the sport. (We actually did a 70’s tennis themed Christmas card this year, which was so much fun! We ordered authentic 70’s tennis attire and had a blast.) As we decorate the nursery for our October baby, one of the portraits that will hang in his room is an iconic Slim Aaarons photo of tennis players! 🙂
Tennis has frequently been a way for our family to spend time together and have friendly family bets going…the loser has to the dishes, the winner gets their favorite dessert homemade. It’s not only a way for us to stay active as a family, but to bond over a shared love of something we all have a history with. If you haven’t ever given tennis a try, let me give you few reasons why I love it so much:
- Tennis gives you tons of options: playing singles, doubles, or mixed doubles. (Heck, you can play solo with a ball machine or hit against a wall if you need some time to just clear your head!)
- For my fellow fashionistas, tennis is by far the most fashion forward sport…and one where you can still look cute, sexy, and fun.
- Tennis is a lifelong sport; you can play at any age. You can play as hard or as leisurely as you want!
- It’s a great date activity…who doesn’t enjoy sweating it out on the court and then getting an ice cream cone or gourmet popsicle afterwards?
I’ve been wearing adidas on the court since junior high school, and not much has changed. adidas athletic shoes and clay shoes are super awesome for time on the court because they are made for getting down to business when it’s time to bust out your racket and they come in some pretty awesome colors. adidas sent me some great products to try out on the court, like the Edge Luxe 2 which is a lightweight shoe perfect for sprinting to volley at the net. This style was specifically made for a woman’s foot, and you can definitely tell that it is crafted to fit you better than your average shoe. It’s sporty and… dare I say, elegant? It looks sharp with a tennis skirt or dress, but since I’m seven months pregnant, they are still really cool with these incredibly light Adidas Response 3/4 Tights (they have a drawstring waist which is ideal for preggos like me,) and Crossback Tank Top that fits perfectly over my baby bump!
This is my go-to comfy outfit both on and off the court because it keeps me cool in the heat and the shoes keep my feet from hurting after a workout. Hopefully you will consider giving tennis a try, or another try if it’s been a while. There is a reason it’s been a favorite pastime of Presidents, royalty, and celebrities…it’s the ideal way to clear your head and have a little fun wagering with your partners!
