Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I spent the weekend in small town, Texas-eating the local food, visiting historic sights, and shopping for antiques on the town square. It’s a nice change of pace to spend time in a “city” with a slower pace and less emphasis on having “more”.
Which brings me to the style thought for the day: Just because you have the money to spend on expensive wardrobe doesn’t mean you should.
Don’t get me wrong; I LOVE nice things. I collect luxury bags and jewelry, and I love a designer shoe. But I’ve learned that just because you’ve been blessed with an ability to purchase some of those things, doesn’t mean you should spend that kind of money on everything. There’s nothing wrong with saving money for a rainy day! I do think that there are items and designers that have unmatched quality and craftsmanship, and the purchases are worth every penny. But in a competitive society, we are sometimes led to feel like we have to spend a lot of money to measure up to our peers. Or compete with celebrities. Not true.
Buy what you love, what looks good on you, and what fits in your budget. Where your clothes come from is less important than how they make you feel. And if you feel guilty, stressed, or anxious after spending too much on what you wear or carry, then it’s not worth it. You can look fabulous with great places like Wallis, Forever21, Zara, Nordstrom….the list is endless. Saving for big purchases and emergencies is a savvy idea. But…. when it counts, don’t be afraid to splurge at Carolina Herrera and Louis Vuitton.
