Okay, this is a style blog, but today is a slight departure into something I feel compelled to share. While out shooting this comfy sundress and my killer new hat from the Brooklyn Hat Co., I found myself at a popular spot in Dallas called Klyde Warren Park. If you happen to be in Dallas, I highly recommend checking this park out. Not only is the people-watching pretty spectacular, but the food truck selection is really great. In fact, my favorite food truck of all-time (and one of the very first to roll into Dallas,) is located there. Ruthie’s Rolling Cafe.
If you’re wondering what Ruthie’s is making in that colorful red truck, it’s grilled cheese sandwiches. Oh, but not just any grilled cheese. We’re talking gourmet, crazy delicious, best in the world grilled cheese sandwiches. Being a traditionalist, I have a special place in my heart for the Extra Cheesy Classic, which includes swiss, cheddar, mozzerella, and havarti cheeses on sourdough bread. But if you love a stacked grilled cheese, they have things like The Boss, featuring BBQ brisket and cheese, or the El Cubano, which is pulled pork, ham, swiss, mustard and pickles on sourdough. (Fun fact: you an always add things to spice up your order, like tomatoes, bacon, jalapeños, etc.) And if you’re feeling a sweet tooth coming on, the Nutella Nirvana will Rock. Your. World. Nutella, cream cheese frosting, and cinnamon sugar on sourdough…yes, please! One other great thing: you can actually HIRE Ruthie’s to cater your party, wedding, event and have them all to yourself.
Last thing about grilled cheese before I make all of us ravenously hungry: Ruthie’s does something I think is really, really cool. Each month, the company selects an organization, either chosen by a staff member or nominated by the public, to receive a snack of kindness. The truck then surprises that group or organization with their scrumptious cheese delights. So whether it’s women in homeless shelters or veterans, teachers or children with special needs, they are serving up a treat to say thanks to others. It doesn’t get much better than that.
On the day I went to get my Extra Cheesy Classic, it was ridiculously hot and sunny. Which is why I decided it was time to bring out my new Brooklyn Hat Co. felt hat with beautiful furry, feather details on the side. Yes, it’s really perfect for fall weather, but it was my saving grace on this hot (very late) summer day! I have been a collector of their hats for some time now, and I can’t tell you how well they hold up year after year. This hat was exactly what was missing from my collection; it’s sweet with this dress, or will be more sophisticated with leather pants and a cozy sweater.
Either way the weather goes, I’m mentally ready for warm hats and even warmer grilled cheese. Bring on fall!
