I grew up watching the Miss America Pageant. I was in awe of these beautiful, smart girls who looked just as comfortable in a swimsuit as they did singing opera. Or twirling. Or playing the marimba.
This year, I’ve gotten to know the reigning Miss Texas, DeNae Couch, who is from my hometown. She’s sweet, funny, and so well-spoken that I’d be very afraid if I were competing against her for the crown. She’s the real deal.
Miss Texas recently came to the studio to shoot a few segments for “Texas Living“, and we had a great time learning the proper way to flip pancakes.
She was kind enough to let the women in the studio try on her crown, which makes you immediately feel more important when it’s on your head.
Keep your fingers crossed for her this Saturday night as the Miss America Pageant airs live from Las Vegas…and enjoy the awesome lyrics to the world-famous Miss America serenade:
THERE SHE IS, MISS AMERICA
From "The Miss America Pageant"
(Bernie Wayne)
There she is, Miss America
There she is, your ideal
The dream of a million girls who are more than pretty can come true
in Atlantic City
For she may turn out to be the Queen of femininity
There she is, Miss America
There she is, your ideal
With so many beauties she took the town by storm
With her all-American face and form
And there she is
Walking on air, she is
Fairest of the fair, she is
There she is - Miss America
