Ah, the sundress. And not just any sundress, but the maxi dress. It hides flaws, accentuates collar bones, and if you haven’t shaved, you can hide it pretty easily.
There are a few rules of thumb to go by when wearing the maxi dress or skirt, though, and I thought I’d share them with you:
1. If you decide to wear a sweater or cardigan over your maxi dress, check the length of your blazer/cardigan so it doesn’t hit at your hips to make you look wider.
2. V-neck styles will help elongate your body, while waist-cinching drawstrings & belts help define the waist and keep you from looking like a box.
3. Don’t be afraid to wear a preppy collared shirt or polo with a maxi skirt to dress things up a bit! Tuck the shirt in and wear a belt for a more finished look.
4. For petities who want to appear taller, pair your maxi skirt with a short flowy top-but tuck it in. This will highlight your waist and makes your legs look longer, which gives the appearance of being taller and thinner.
5. For an apple shape (those will problem tummies), or if you carry more weight on your lower half, buy a maxi dress that features an empire line just below the bust.
6. If you are self-conscious about your arms, try a maxi dress that has sleeves. Short, long, or loose sleeves could be the perfect answer!
7. If you wear a printed maxi dress or skirt, keep your handbag to a small/medium size. This will detract from the bulkiness of the print, and compliment your dress nicely.
