I love the mountains. Love, love, love. I grew up spending my summers in the mountains, and I take every chance that comes my way to get back to them. I’m fortunate that this week I am spending time with family in the beautiful San Juan mountains, but just as I expected, the weather has changed its course several times since I’ve been here.
This brings me to a very important point: never, ever underestimate the power of smart packing. There are great lists like this one from Pinterest that are a guideline for the packing challenged, and I highly recommend using one. I generally overpack for the mountains, simply because it can be 85 degrees one day, and in the 40’s the very next.
Today’s post is all about packing for a getaway to the mountains, but for sightseeing in town and casual activities that don’t require sporting clothes. I suggest bringing along a brightly colored pair of skinnies or pants for those “just in case it gets chilly” moments, and a versatile blouse in a complimentary color. (I chose mint and purple.) Pick things that don’t wrinkle too easily and take up little space in your suitcase. Also, you can never go wrong with a comfy pair of flats in a neutral color. I often forget to pack my sunglasses, so make sure those are on your list, too! It’s seems like it’s always more expensive trying to find a pair on vacation.
I’ll have a few more posts from the mountains this week…or maybe a few more if I decide to stay permanently!
