Have you ever been to a chiropractor? I started going a few years ago because my jaw sometimes moves out of place, causing head and neck aches. I would get a slight adjustment, maybe some tens therapy, and be on my way. After having a baby, though, I realized I may need something more in-depth to help with the upper back and neck pain I’ve been experiencing, as well as some pain in my left hip that popped up after carrying Fox for nine months.
After visiting Stretch Zone to help me get my flexibility back after baby, several of the practitioners there recommended Dynamic Sports Medicine in Dallas. I met Dr. Jinna Mann, who is exactly the kind of person you want adjusting critical things. She’s a calming presence, a great listener, and put me completely at ease about my back and neck issues. (Did I also mention she’s stunningly beautiful?)
She started by asking about concerns I had, especially since having a C-section seven months ago. Being a mother herself, she could really relate to the changes I’ve been going through. After our chat, I was expecting the typical chiro visit: a quick adjustment and then I’d be sent on my way. But Dynamic Sports Medicine does things differently. Much differently.
Dr. Mann began my treatment with what I was expecting-an adjustment.
She aligned everything, released the tension in my neck, and addressed the discomfort I feel in my left hip. The adjustment left my jaw at ease, and my neck and shoulders didn’t feel so crunched together. Sweet relief!
Up next? A cupping session, a surprise I loved. I had a few significantly dark purple-ish circles on the areas of my upper back where I’d been feeling the most tension.
The cupping brings healthy blood flow to the injured tissues to aid in the healing process, while also drawing toxins away from the area. When the cups were removed, I felt a greater sense of relaxation. Here’s where things get interesting…..
Ever heard of Acoustic Compression Therapy (MyACT)? Yeah, me either. It’s basically sound waves (administered through a device that reminds me of a sonogram wand,) that cannot be felt as they enter and pass through the body. The waves produce an intense, extremely short duration pressure pulse that delivers therapeutic treatment in areas that may be hard to reach through other methods. The clinician has you help guide the process through your verbal feedback-you let them know if the treatment is flaring your familiar pain.
It felt like a dull ache in my shoulders and between my shoulder blades when the clinician, Max, ran the wand over areas that had been giving me trouble. When the treatment was over, it was like those areas had been though a deep tissue massage….there was noticeable relaxation and release. I felt a major difference in the tight knots between my shoulder blades. Crazy.
Just when I thought the therapy was over, I was taken to a nearby chair resembling leather massage chairs. Max handed me a small loop to slip my left leg into and slide up to the hip that has been giving me trouble.
Once it was in place, I sat down in the chair and leaned back to “relax”. Little did I know, this device is called PEMF, or Pulsed Energy Technology, and boy, pulsed is right! The energy from the PER 2000 device was discharged into the loop, and a strong, but brief electromagnetic field was created. The energy was then induced into my hip! It’s essentially like “recharging the batteries inside of you”. It felt like a small hammer was pinging my hip over and over…not painful, but certainly not relaxing. It was one of those treatments that you just know is making a difference because it’s just too strange not to!
In case you’re wondering what this is good for, here is short list of benefits: boost immune system, reducing muscle tension, improving tissue healing, reducing pain, increasing energy, slowing the development of arthritis, helping the body to detoxify, improving the uptake of nutrients, reducing blood pressure, helping nerve function, helping liver function, balancing the acupuncture meridians, improving sleep, and making the soft tissues more flexible. It’s fascinating a loop of energy can do all that.
It’s been almost two weeks since my visit to Dynamic Sports Medicine, and my hip hasn’t hurt ONCE. My shoulders, back and neck feel lighter and much less congested. And quite honestly, I just feel good knowing I went to do something kind and helpful for my body. I think we spend a lot of time and money on improving the exterior of our bodies with cosmetics, body wraps, facials, or pedicures, but what about spending time and money making the inside look and feel better? I can’t imagine going so long again without visiting Dr. Mann and Dynamic Sports Medicine. Fellow new moms-do yourself a favor and get everything back in alignment. You’ll feel like a new person.
It wasn’t the usual “one adjustment and done” experience; it was a comprehensive treatment. I highly recommend if you are in the Dallas or Austin areas, you come in to check it out for yourself. There is no sense in living with pain and discomfort sticking with just the “usual” treatment. Better is out there, and I’ve found it!
