It’s getting awfully close to my birthday. And you’d think that having recently given up sugar, I’d be freaking out a little. I’m not….yet.
Every year on my birthday, my sweet Mom drives an arduous, traffic-filled commute to pick up a birthday cake from the other side of the city. This cake is so outrageously delicious that it should be illegal. They also have icing sandwich cookies, heavenly cupcakes, and sugar cookies that are to die for. If it’s my last day on earth and someone grants me a final meal, it wouldn’t be filet Mignon or Chilean Sea Bass. It would be a giant chocolate cake from this bakery.
However, after seeing the documentary “Fed Up“, my house has decided we are a natural sugars only kind of family to stabilize our health and keep our weight at a good place. And boy, is that rough. The first two weeks were nothing but throbbing headaches and detox tremors. (Let’s not forget that I ate Snickers and cookies for breakfast for my entire college and post-college years.) Now, it’s finally leveling off, and fresh fruit has begun to taste sweet again. I don’t salivate when I pass macarons or petit fours. I’m okay without it.
For now.
